If you asked most people in Thessaloniki about Mavili Square a few years ago, chances are they wouldn’t have known it even though the square is in a central location. However, after a recent redevelopment of the area, local cafes and bars have emerged, transforming it into a vibrant, up-and-coming neighborhood. One of the first businesses to put Mavili Square on the map was Utopia Taproom.
Utopia is a gypsy brewery from Serres, a city an hour’s drive from Thessaloniki, that began in 2020 during the pandemic with their debut beer, Eden. Since then, they have collaborated with numerous Greek and international breweries, continuously innovating and introducing exciting new recipes.
In 2023, following the pandemic, the team behind Utopia took a bold step by opening one of Thessaloniki’s first taprooms in the then unknown Mavili Square. Utopia Taproom introduced a fresh concept to the city’s bar scene with its distinctive decor, craft beers from across Greece, and thematic DJ sets almost every night. Additionally, Utopia organizes multiple events like stand-up comedy nights, flash tattoos events, tap takeovers and more.
Guests can enjoy fresh beer from 12 constantly rotating taps, featuring a wide variety of styles, from classic lagers to IPAs, stouts, and sours, along with an extensive selection of bottles and cans (Check Utopia’s Menu).
To pair perfectly with the beers, four varieties of Pinsa are served in a warm and inviting atmosphere.
Utopia remains dedicated to supporting independent breweries and consistently offering something new to Thessaloniki’s craft beer scene and Greece as a whole. It’s fair to say that Utopia Taproom has firmly placed Mavili Square on the map, making it a must-visit destination in the city’s vibrant nightlife.
